We understand that people are our most valuable resource, and we want to make your experience with us as positive and beneficial as possible.
We offer competitive pay to our colleagues, alongside comprehensive support. You will receive a full induction to help you settle into your new role. You will also get ongoing training and personal development opportunities to help you perform at your best, providing a work/life balance and supporting your wellbeing.
Flexible working options
It's important to us that our employees can have a healthy work-life balance. We can offer options such as:
- part-time work
- job-sharing opportunities
- term-time working patterns
- annualised hours
- mobile working
- compressed work weeks
Annual leave
We offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days, increasing to 28.5 days after five years’ service and 31.5 days after 10 years service with a pro rata entitlement for part time workers (excluding Youth and Community Workers whose terms and conditions are determined by the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC).
Bank holidays
Bank/Public Holidays are additional to the above entitlements (there are normally eight such days in a year). Part time employees or anyone with compressed working patterns will have an adjustment made to their annual leave, to account for where bank holidays fall in their working pattern.
Buying additional annual leave
You can also buy extra holiday through our popular annual leave purchase scheme.
Relocation support
If you're planning to relocate for a job with us, you may be able to get up to £8,000 in relocation costs, as specified in the job advert.
Pension scheme
You can join the BCP Council pension scheme, which is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) under Dorset Council. This scheme offers tax-approved, defined benefit occupational pensions based on your membership length and salary.
More information about the benefits of the LGPS scheme
Entry to the LGPS is automatic for employees under the age 75 and with a contract of more than three months.
Employees with a contract for less than three months may elect to join the scheme
We will maintain your membership of the scheme unless you personally choose to opt out, are no longer eligible for membership or you stop making contributions. We must also ensure the scheme continues to meet certain government standards.
Lifestyle savings
Our benefits program is available to all employees and their immediate families. It provides savings on high-street shopping, groceries, travel, dining out, and more.
Car benefit scheme
The car benefit scheme allows you to order a brand new car with an all-inclusive package. The costs are deducted directly from your gross salary, saving you money on National Insurance and pension contributions.
Cycle to work scheme
You can lease a bike and safety equipment for a year, for business and personal use. The lease cost is deducted from your gross pay, and you can lease equipment up to £3,000, inclusive of VAT.
