Preparing for your interview

Interviews can be a nerve-racking experience for many, and we want to do all we can to help you feel at ease and be able to show the skills that you have for role and to be yourself. This interview guidance has been developed in order to help you understand the process and be confident and well prepared for your interview with BCP Council.

Before the interview

Before your interview you should:

  • prepare as much as possible for the interview as this will provide you with confidence and ensure your experience will be a more positive one
  • read the advert and any documents particularly the knowledge and skills required as you will be asked competency-based questions linked to this.
  • familiarise yourself with our our values and behaviours framework which you will need to be able to demonstrate through the way you work
  • make sure you know where and when it will be held and give yourself plenty of time to travel
  • remind yourself of the right to work documentation and any other documents mentioned in your interview invite and bring these with you
  • prepare any questions you may want to ask at the interview and write these down if necessary

If you have a disability you must request any reasonable adjustments. You can find advice from Scope about the types of adjustments that might help.

You can also visit GOV.UK for interview tips and additional guidance for your interview preparation.

Documents to bring to the interview

If the interview is being held in person, then you will need to bring the following documents with you, or if the interview is being held remotely then the successful candidate will be asked to provide these documents separately

If you have received an invitation to attend an interview, you will need to bring:

  • proof that you can work in the UK (passport and any VISA info including a share code if applicable)
  • an official document showing your name and National Insurance Number
  • documents that support any legal name changes
  • any other documents mentioned in the job advert or interview invitation (such as a driving licence if it's required for the role, or proof of professional qualifications)
