We understand that everyone’s journey into work is different.
As a council we have a responsibility to be a corporate parent. This means we must make sure that children and young people in our care are safe, supported, and given the best chance to do well.
As a corporate parent, we are committed to supporting care‑experienced young people to access jobs, gain skills and build positive futures. Our aim is to remove barriers, offer practical support and make sure opportunities across the council are fair and accessible.
You don’t need to have everything figured out – we’re here to support you whether that is through guaranteed interviews when the essential criteria is met, training and education, or work experience.
We are committed to
- creating fair and inclusive routes into employment
- supporting care‑experienced young people to feel ready for work
- offering work experience that builds confidence and skills
- making recruitment processes open, supportive and easy to understand
To help you into employment, we offer a guaranteed interview for council jobs. Tell us on your application form if you are a care leaver or care‑experienced young person, and that the essential criteria is met - meaning you have the skills, experience and qualifications for the role.
